Sheriff warns Trick or Treaters to beware of Pot Laced Candy

The L. A County Sheriff’s Department has urged parents to be on the lookout for candy that may be laced with marijuana this Halloween.
The locations consisted of five dispensaries, one cultivation site, two processing sites, seven residences, and one sailboat, located in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties. Detectives arrested 11 suspects and seized an estimated combined total of:
35 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $70,000
78 pounds of processed marijuana with an estimated street value of $234,000
7 gallons of concentrated cannabis oils with an estimated street value of $44,800
An estimated $20,000 in bulk cash
Approximately 4,000 packaged edible products (candy bars, snacks, soda, etc.) with an estimated street value of $24,000
6 vehicles
Hydroponic growing equipment and chemicals

Officials say candy bars and lollipops are often laced with marijuana and sold in marijuana dispensaries, the Sheriff's Department has warned that some of the tainted candy could be circulating around.
These lollipops, candy bars and cookies are said to look legitimate, however they do not smell normal, the concern is that if a kid was to get their hands on some of the tainted treats, they might end up sick or intoxicated.

There have not been any reports in past years, of candy containing pot being given to trick or treaters, however The Sheriff's Department said parents can call the police if they see any suspicious treats.
On October 6 2010, members of the Narcotics Bureau, in a joint operation with the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, State Board of Equalization, and State Franchise Tax Board, served simultaneous search warrants at 16 locations related to the illegal manufacture and sales of marijuana, cannabis concentrates, and marijuana laced food products through various outlets in Southern California and other states.
